We will be focusing on writing during the next class. How does one (or more)of the readings for this class relate to your placement experience? Have you experienced 6 Traits or writing conferences as a student or as a teacher? As usual, you may also choose your own topic related to the readings.
I am really excited to be learning about digital storytelling with our vignettes and am already envisioning ways this can be integrated into classroom lesson plans. It seems to me that digital storytelling can be a very creative base for many forms. I imagine that digital storytelling can be incoporated with art, music, science, history, literature, and just about any subject.
However, most importantly, in my opinion, is utilizing technology in our classrooms. This is particularly true in our high tech society. What makes me think of this idea is from a blog that I read recently of teachers and technology and it makes me wonder how technology can be used to inspire. The first thought that comes to my mind, are the digital stories because lesson plans can be designed to help students develop a deeper understanding of technology as well as skills in research and writing. Also, these digitial stories can motivate intrinsic student learning and would be a great lesson to apply Routman's optimal model of learning. The learning and creation of the digital story can be scaffolded by the teacher for the student to create the final project.
As well, in Routman Chapter 6, she talks of the "reading-writing connection". One of the examples that she writes of is reading aloud together (Routman, p.121). Routman also writes of when she "cannot find texts students can easily read, (they) write their own" (Routman, p.120). This is one of the reasons why I am so excited about digital storytelling because it can be so versatile for teachers to link the reading and writing connection that Routman writes of in chapter 6.
